About Autlife

AutLife is a specialized consulting firm, founded by the former Chairman of Psychiatry from the University of Utah, William M. McMahon MD, the former Associate Dean of Medicine and Pervasive Developmental Disorders at Dartmouth College, Jack Rockefeller JD MPH DrPH, and University of Utah Educational Psychology Assistant Professor, John L. Davis, PhD, with the mission of creating new opportunities for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders through funding support, applied research, and training. Our life stage focus will be primarily on transition age through adulthood, but lifespan programming options involving retrofitting of IEP’s will also be considered for funding and applied research.

Background value proposition:

Proper funding is always key in ASD program development and expansion. Without it, programming cannot be fully implemented, studied, or improved toward replicability and scale. The leadership of AutLife has extensive experience securing funding for direct service projects from a variety of sources. These funding sources include private donations, foundation support, and competitive federal service grants. Through combined experience we can support existing programs by writing competitive applications, soliciting social venture capital and pure philanthropy from high net worth individuals, foundations and corporations.  By connecting your organization with appropriate funding sources, the primary roadblock to improved programming and outcomes will be removed.

Applied Research is central to the mission of AutLife. Our research perspective has several complementary and interrelated goals. First, we seek to develop new knowledge by studying new and existing programs. From our experience in direct service, we know that there are many gifted individuals working to support positive outcomes for persons with disabilities. These service providers are often charged with developing and refining programs to meet their client’s unique needs. Our work, in connection with direct service personnel is a unique opportunity to properly document service procedures (i.e. manualizing service efforts) while measuring the implementation of these procedures (i.e. fidelity of implementation). Through this collaborative process we intend to measure positive gains in desired outcomes while creating a service product that can be replicated by other providers and scaled to meet to broader service goals.

Our final goal is to improve the rigor of direct service. To support positive outcomes in service efforts, AutLife Personnel will help translate research findings to design intervention services that include evidence-based practices that are known to be efficacious.  Our knowledge of the research literature and evidence based practices will help to improve existing services by integrating specific evidence based techniques.   In addition to designing and refining specific services, we can design implementation plans where change in client outcomes can be directly attributed to the efforts of the service provided.  Through the process of assigning clients to service groups (e.g. randomization) and measuring client characteristics before and after services, we can design a service plan that meets client needs, while having sufficient rigor to infer causation of the measured change being due to the services provided. As a package of services, our applied research program will support the design of services, measurement of outcomes, and the plan for implementation. Careful consideration of each of these elements are key in producing service efforts that are replicable within the organizational and external space, while being amenable to scalability for higher service capacity goals, and funding approaches.

Through our efforts in support of best practices for individuals with disabilities, AutLife also provides training for service providers on a broad range of topics.  Capitalizing on our breadth of knowledge through direct service and research, we offer training opportunities to support a variety of service needs. Autlife can also coordinate conferences to support transition and employment services for individuals with disabilities.
